Supersprints

Besides the well-known intermediate sprints, there were also other bonus sprints in the Tour. These included the Souvenir Henri Desgrange and the Souvenir Jacques Goddet, as well as others. Below is a partial list.

1960

Stage 21

To keep the final stage interesting, there were four intermediate sprints where riders could earn points. Points were also awarded at the finish line, and a classification was created; Graczyk won this.

1968

Stage 15

Souvenir to remember Tom Simpson, who died in 1967 during a Tour stage.

1974

Stage 20

Sprint with a large cash prize, to stimulate combativity in the final phas of the Tour.

Prize awarded by the French newspaper, who organized the Tour together with L'Équipe. The prize was significant, equal to the Souvenir Desgrange.

To remember Charles de Gaulle, in the place where he used to live. Also included a time bonus.

Stage 2

In 1992, there was a special classification with a sprint at every international border. It was called ESF: Europe Sans Frontières, and it was to celebrate the founding of the European Union.
