Fake grand slam

Fake grand slam

I define a fake grand slam fake grand slam in the Tour as meeting four goals:

  1. Winning a stage.
  2. Wearing the yellow jersey in a stage.
  3. Wearing the green jersey in a stage. (I would have accepted the red jersey from 1968, but it turns out that this is not relevant.)
  4. Wearing the polka-dot jersey in a stage.

Of course, this only became possible after the introduction of the polka-dot jersey in 1975. I call this "fake" because the riders not necessarily were leading the associated classification; sometimes a jersey is worn by the next rider because a rider is wearing multiple classifications, see the overview. The list below shows which riders really wore all jersey during a stage, and also won a stage.

Despite it being "fake", it is more difficult to get than a real grand slam. Winning the prologue would give a rider three of the requirements for a normal grand slam, but only two for a fake grand slam.

Super fake grand slam

I define a super fake grand slam as meeting the requirements of a fake grand slam, plus wearing the white jersey of the young rider classification. The riders riding between 1989 and 1999 are in bad luck, because there was no white jersey in those years.

Four jerseys without stage victory

And how many riders only miss a stage victory for the super fake grand slam?

Nobody!
