Best team in the Tour de France

All teams are listed here with their standardized performance. The "Stage" column shows the probability that a team of the same size won the same number of stages or fewer in that year. If this number is 0.5, the team won exactly the expected number of stages. The higher the number, the better the team performed.

The "GC (M-W)" column shows how well that team performed in the general classification, using the Mann-Whitney test. The value is (approximately) normally distributed by default; this means that a number of 0 is "average," and the higher the number, the better the performance.

The "GC (lexico)" column shows the same, but then looking at an lexicographic ordering. Here 0.5 is "average", 0 is the worst and 1 is the best.

In the years before World War II, there were various categories, and in the overview below, they are considered equally strong. Therefore, professional teams before World War II are overestimated.
